Depression, Anxiety, Death, Life

So needless to say this summer has not been the best for me. I have had to go underground for awhile and have, due to physical and mental ailments, been unable to do any new comics. I just cannot hold a pencil/pen to ink the suckers. Too shaky from the meds. Rottin Rotti was put on hold for other, very sad reasons. Princess, my love, my life, passed away July 23. It has taken me quite awhile before I was able to even read her old comics. I miss her greatly, but she has more stories that need to be told - as well as other dog's stories - so I will be doing more issues, no fear there.

My doctors and I are hoping to have it cleared up by the end of October, so I'm announcing the re-start of both Julie Light and Rottin Rotti for November 1st (or the subsequent dates that fall on their publishing days)

I cannot stress enough how much it means to me to have such great readers!

If you are able to, drop by SPX this weekend, I'll be at a table with my friend selling some .50 comics, art prints, keychains, and commisions. Oh....and eventually both Rottin Rotti and Julie Light will find a new home at http://jkstudios.weebly.com once i get the site up and running. It will also have a portfolio of my work and prices for commisions, tattoo design and the like.

So Anime North went well, but now I'm quite ill. I'm not able to do any comics for today, so I apologize to my readers. I will do my best to get one up for Thursday for Julie Light, and for Friday for Rottin Rotti.

Today is the Winter Solstice/Yule!

While I wish all of you a Blessed Yule and a Merry Christmas, I've taken a break this weekend from the comics.

Sorry for the delay. Had a busy couple weeks at work - might as well have been working a convention for the amount of time I put in this weekend. Yuck. But it's all good now and I can concentrate on what's really important - Halloween!

Taking my brother's wise advice I'm going to hand-letter each comic from now on. I thought my writing was horrible, but apparently the mass readers (all 3 of you) disagree. Who knew?

My secret love

As anyone who knows me knows - I read many manga. Nana, MPD Psycho, Gintama just to name a few. All of them well-written, well-drawn, and generally considered above par as far as manga is concerned. I avoid such titles as Naruto, Bleach, Death Note, Dragonball and others that are way too mainstream. They are the same old stories over and over again - been there, done that, don't need to do it again.

But I have a secret.

I have a fondness for....ok, here I go... *deep breath* ... cutsey shojo manga. The ones that are so sickly sweet they make the local candy shop look positively healthy. The ones with transparent storylines, sweet love stories, and sparce artwork. I don't read them in public, and I never buy them when the guys are around. I would suffer endless teasing.

But here, under the guise of anonymity, I can reveal my current secret passions.

BEAUTY POP
I never miss a manga of this sweet love story about high school hair dressers. The main character is always aloof and has gained the attention of several high school boys. The artwork, however, makes them look years younger and I'm often brought to giggles over the cuteness of the style. I never thought that hairdressing would be so...exciting!

INUBAKA
Crazy for dogs? This manga was MADE for me. This sweet 18 year old girl isn't just surrounded by cute guys at a local pet shop, she also has a special way with dogs of all shapes and sizes - beautifully drawn by the manga artist. The story is moving along at a slow pace, but each book features a different breed of dog, so why wouldn't I love it???

SUGAR SUGAR RUNE
Ok, this manga is not only about witches named "chocolate" and "vanilla" and takes place just before high school, it's got cutsey magic, sweet romance, and many other things to make one's teeth hurt. But it's done now and I'm sad...I secretly LOVED this series.

There are a couple others I've been secretly reading, but not collecting, at work. High School Debut, Sand Chronicles, and Kitchen Princess. They all make me smile and giggle like I was sixteen again - and sometimes, I just need that. Something simple, cute and non mind blowing.

It doesn't all need to mean something...right? Right????

Rottin Rotti - My Princess

Let me introduce you to the inspiration for Rottin Rotti - a webcomic hosted here starting tomorrow.

Princess is a 7 (we think) year old rottweiler Fred and I adopted a year ago this past April from the SPCA in Barrie, Ontario. She's been the light in our lives ever since. Sure, she can be a Rottin Rotti sometimes, but for the most part she's sweet, loving, and always fun.

Having her around has been an experience, as she's my first dog (though not the first I've lived with - just the first to have me as her owner on legal documents).

She's a lazy bum, but loves her walks. Will do anything for food, you would think we don't feed her by the fuss she puts up over us eating anything. She has taken over our bed, our couch, and some would argue, our lives. But we wouldn't have it any other way, eh? She's just that precious to us.

I hope you'll enjoy her comic exploits and get to know her better as time wears on.

So here I go, blogging away. I'm aiming for a fresh start here, where I can post my upcoming comic Rottin Rotti, update on my artistic inclinations, give reviews, talk about life, and make random comments.

Oh...and keep up to date with my bestest friend in the whole wide world!

I'm at work right now and really need a cigarette - but I'm off in 1/2 an hour so I'll wait. I still have the crappy American menthol cigs I got at SPX.

I'll blog more later - Stinky dude just came in and I have to go throw up now.
